Here's The Buzz About International Coffee Day
The History of International Coffee Day
Many of us can’t start our mornings without a cup of coffee. Served iced or steaming hot, with milk and sugar, or black, coffee is an integral part of the morning routine. In fact, coffee is so integral to our lives, that there’s a whole day dedicated to celebrating and appreciating it. The exact origins of the day are unknown, though mentions of “International Coffee Day” go as far back as 2005 in the United States. International Coffee Day was officially recognized as a special day in 2015 by the International Coffee Organization. Since then, International Coffee Day has been celebrated worldwide on September 29.
It is also important to note that International Coffee Day isn’t just an excuse to drink even more coffee than normal. But, it is also a day used to promote fair trade coffee and to start discussions that raise awareness for the challenges facing coffee growers who often struggle to turn a high profit on their crops and grow their beans sustainably.
Many businesses also use this day as an opportunity to offer coupons and special deals to customers, making this a great time to try a new type of coffee or even experiment with new ways of brewing coffee.

Why Using Filtered Water is Better for Coffee
No matter what technique you use for preparing your coffee, french press, pour-over, siphon, etc. the thing they all have in common is that water is a key ingredient. So, you might want to reconsider using tap water for that daily cup of joy. Considering the fact that a cup of coffee is largely water and the type of water you use greatly affects how the coffee tastes.
Most tap water in the United States is considered drinkable by a minimum standard set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. But, the level of regulation each state applies to ensuring their water is contaminant-free varies, which means the quality of your tap water can drastically differ from state to state.
Many people live in areas where the water tastes hard meaning that there are a lot of naturally occurring minerals like magnesium and calcium. These minerals can impact the taste of tap water. If your tap water tastes slightly metallic or bitter, there’s probably too much iron in it. In other cases, hydrogen sulfide gas can cause water to smell like rotten eggs. Hydrogen sulfide gas can naturally occur as a result of a chemical reaction from the decay of organic matter or be produced by sulfur bacteria in groundwater, wells, or plumbing systems. These smells and flavors will probably wake you up, but not for the reasons you’re looking for.
Over time hard water will cause mineral build-up on your coffee pot, so if you’ve ever noticed white or gray deposits, your tap water is probably on the harder side. It is possible to clean any buildup using a descaling process, but it adds an annoying additional step that can be avoided by using filtered water instead.
The ZeroWater 5-stage filters use a premium ion exchange water filtration system that is designed to reduce 99.6% of total dissolved solids (TDS) including organic and inorganic materials, such as metals, minerals, salts, and ions that are dissolved in water. These dissolved solids can affect the way your tap water tastes and looks and can enter your water supply from a wide range of sources —old piping, run-off from road salts, pesticides, fertilizers, and more. ZeroWater 5-stage filters reduce these contaminants and you can enjoy the benefits of clearer, purer-tasting water.
Different water filtration systems like ZeroWater’s 5-stage filter, ExtremeLife faucet-mount, or EcoFilters are affordable options that use premium technology so customers can enjoy better-tasting water for a better coffee brew.
